Measuring and Modeling Biogeochemical Processes Controlling the Carbon Cycle of Inland Waters III Posters
Session ID#: 6174
Session Description:
This session aims to bring empirical scientists and modelers together for a detailed discussion of the biogeochemical processes controlling the flow and fate of carbon through all inland waters, from rivers, ponds, lakes, and reservoirs. We invite experimental, monitoring, and numerical modelling contributions that address questions specific to any carbon species among bottom sediments, water columns, and to the atmosphere. Example studies include (but are not limited to) those investigating greenhouse gas (i.e., CH4 and CO2) exchange at the air-water interface; CH4 and CO2dynamics in sediments and water columns; organic matter (OM) cycling via bacterial decomposition, photo-oxidation, or pelagic metabolism; role of terrestrial OM input and other linkages between water bodies and surrounding lands; the effect of water stratification on the carbon cycle, etc. This session will play an essential role in improving our knowledge of the inland water carbon cycle by exploring results from experiments, observations, and modelling.
