Session Description:
This session focuses on the physics of multi-scale plasma turbulence, intermittency and complexity in solar system plasmas, as documented by in-situ spacecraft measurements (from, e.g., Messenger, Venus Express, Stereo, Ulysses, Cluster, THEMIS, MGS, Cassini, and Voyager), remote or ground-based observations, theoretical models and numerical simulations.  The session addresses fundamental questions such as understanding of the dynamical behavior resulting from the evolution of multi-scale coherent structures, the multi-scale energy transfer, anisotropy, possible links with critical phenomena and coarse-grained dissipation.  The session also welcomes comparisons between (non)-universal features of turbulence and intermittency in the solar wind and in planetary magnetospheres (with or without intrinsic magnetic fields), as well as studies devoted to their solar-cycle evolution.  The session provides a forum to discuss results of higher order data analyses related to probability distribution functions, multifractals, and information theory applied to data ensembles relevant for solar system plasmas.
