Some Do Not Like It Hot: Climate Change Impacts on the Thermal and Flow Regimes of Hydrologic Systems

Session Description:
Rivers and streams are experiencing warming and alterations to flow regimes due to increases in air temperature and changes to the timing and magnitude of precipitation and snow melt. In some reaches, these changes are further stressing already taxed aquatic ecosystems. These changes are not linear and are not confined to surface water bodies. For example, groundwater discharge, which is known to cool summer surface water temperatures and create thermal refuges, will also respond to changing atmospheric conditions. Further research is required to accurately simulate the influence of projected climate change scenarios on water temperature and discharge and the associated impacts to lotic ecosystems. We welcome all presentations that address any aspect of the influence of climate change on rivers, streams, and aquifers- including: physical drivers, modeling developments, field observations, and biological implications.
