Rock Physcis and Mechanics for the 21st Century: Theory, Measurement, Computation, and Integration

Session Description:
The last decade has seen an acceleration in the sophistication of the technologies we can apply to earth materials.  We can now characterize, compute pore scale effects and crystallographic preferred orientation (CPO) induced seismic anisotropy of polymineralic rocks, and measure the physical properties under varying conditions of temperature, pressure, and frequency.   These new data are increasingly being integrated with larger scale geophysical field observations.  This session seeks to highlight recent experimental results and new techniques being used to better understand the physical properties of the Earth at any scale – be they the laboratory, from boreholes, or field experiments.  The integration of these observations to achieve a fuller understanding of geological structure and processes are of particular interest.
