Silicate Weathering Through Earth History II Posters

Session Description:
Many past climate changes, from throughout Earth history, have been shown to have covaried with atmospheric CO2. On timescales greater than a few hundred ky, the primary control on atmospheric CO2 is silicate weathering. Theoretical arguments suggest that the feedback of temperature on silicate weathering must be strong, yet fundamental process understanding of this feedback is lacking. Uncertainties include the effects of runoff, vegetation, glacial erosion and surface rock type, as well as the ways in which these variables interact with the climate state. We invite contributions from both modern process studies and geological archives that help to better constrain the role of silicate weathering in Earth history. These could include field observations, paleoclimatic records, pCO2 reconstructions, and numerical modelling.
