Session Description:
The North American Cordillera extends from Mexico to the Arctic coast and Alaska and is characterized by a large variety of tectonic environments, from active convergent and transform plate boundaries to crustal- and lithospheric-scale tectonic sutures. Recent efforts to increase geophysical instrumentation and monitoring have improved our understanding of these tectonic structures and their interactions from the surface to the mantle. This session aims to bring together Earth scientists who work on deciphering the seismic structure and processes associated with the evolution and current deformation of the North American Cordillera. We seek contributions from seismology, geodynamics, tectonics and related fields that yield constraints on the thermal and compositional structure as well as active deformation of the crust and mantle through field observations, laboratory studies and numerical modeling.
