Understanding Paleogeomagnetic Change II Posters

Session Description:
We study the paleomagnetic record for many reasons, with the most fundamental being to understand the past history of the geomagnetic field. Paleo-geomagnetic observations from sediments, rocks, or archeological artifacts provide fundamental information about the core and the geodynamo on timescales that cannot be constrained from the short historical record. Nevertheless, significant uncertainties remain as deriving paleo-geomagnetic records can be complex and because the spatial coverage of these records is not global. In this session, we seek contributions from paleo-geomagnetic records, archeomagnetic records, compilations of these records, modeling studies and geomagnetic information inverted from cosmogenic isotope records that inform on the processes and boundary conditions that govern paleo-geomagnetic change at various timescales from both Hemispheres, as well as studies investigating the influence of lithology and sedimentary processes on the acquisition of the paleomagnetic signal.
