Session Description:
Urban areas around the world are growing at an unprecedented rate, with more than half of the world’s population now residing in urban and suburban areas. Urban development fundamentally reconfigures the pathways along which matter and energy move through catchments. This session invites contributions that: 1) explore the hydrological, biogeochemical, geomorphological and ecological functioning of urban catchments; 2) describe how these processes create or impact ecosystem services; and/or 3) develop and apply approaches to managing urban watershed ecosystem services in light of this knowledge. We also welcome contributions that focus on ecohydrological modeling methods that integrate the impacts of urbanization and climate variability.
