Applications of Remote Sensing and In Situ Monitoring of Soil Moisture Posters

Session Description:
On-going advances in satellite based and in situ measurement techniques for soil moisture are improving data availability for hydrologic, climate and agricultural applications. Globally reliable data from active and passive microwave remote sensing (e.g. Soil Moisture Ocean Salinity (SMOS) and Soil Moisture Active Passive (SMAP) missions) has expanded the tools available to characterize and understand soil moisture dynamics over multiple scales. This is combined with new techniques and advances in automation of in situ data collection (e.g. for satellite validation), as well as improved methods for sensor calibration. Posters in this session are invited to discuss results of remote sensing and in situ investigations of soil moisture variability and scaling and the implications for Earth Science applications.
