Abstract:
The comprehensive manual for repeat hydrography around the world today comes from WOCE, 30 years ago. In the intervening years partial revisions of the manual have appeared updating sections as necessary creating a fragmented knowledgebase where guidelines refer in part to GO-SHIP and in part to WOCE as sections filter up. With the GO-SHIP manual approaching 10 years of age and the WOCE manual approaching 30 years, a substantial update of the WOCE manual is being done by ODF at Scripps Institution of Oceanography for their own internal use and training. This manual builds upon and augments both the WOCE and GO-SHIP manual, updating topics such as sampling order and rationale, checklists and forms, and cruise reporting requirements to standardize procedures internationally, among others. This updated manual is being considered for use as a supplement to the current GO-SHIP hydro manual and aims to be best practices for repeat hydrography around the world.
