Making a Functional Fluid Dynamics Lab: The Más Lab
Abstract:
The goal of the summer was to improve the functionality of the 1.5 meter dimeter rotating tank, located at the University of Redlands Más Lab. The tank's rotation mechanism was upgraded. Two DC power busses and multiple data busses to host additional instrumentation were added to the rotating frame. The feasibility of the rheoscopic fluid presented by Borrero-Echeverry et. al. 2018 was tested at our scale as a classroom experience for high school students. We also present a preliminary design of a wave driver for the tank and models of the surface gravity wave modes of the tank.
