Abstract:
Industry academia partnerships fall into a range of different types depending on the nature of the industrial partner. Motivation to form partnerships also varies depending on the type of industry engaged. For example, organisations concerned with use of the ocean and ocean resources will tend to form partnerships concerned with addressing research needs associated with the safety, efficiency or environmental acceptability of their operations, whereas organisations concerned with development and sale of ocean instrumentation will tend to partner in research and development projects which advance novel sensor technologies. This paper will examine the range of industry academia partnership types, illustrating each with example case studies which illustrate the components of a successful partnership.
