Observations for the Present and Future – A Panel of Vendors’ Views on Technology
Session ID#: 100387
Session Description:
Present and future ocean observations require a range of sensors for sampling the ocean in space and time. A panel of management from a range of ocean technology companies, including Saildrone and SeaBird Electronics, Inc. will address the current state of ocean sensors and service, and look to gain feedback in a discussion with the scientific communities and a broad range of users about future potential aquatic observational needs. The panel will be moderated by Dr. Richard Spinrad, President of the Marine Technology Society. Federal and other agency partners will be present as well. The goal is to understand the current limitations, if any, of industry to serve the needs of the research and applied science communities (people, resources, customer service, profit, etc.) and their needs, and the state of the current and future observational needs of the science communities. The goal is to bring folks together from industry, NGO’s, academia, government, etc. to identify new ideas to build partnerships among the different factions to support new technology and instrument/sensor development and needs.
