TH33C:
Update on the Second International Indian Ocean Expedition (IIOE-2)

Session ID#: 91789

Session Description:
The second International Indian Ocean Expedition (IIOE-2) was launched in December 2015. The core mission of the Expedition is to advance our understanding of geologic, oceanic and atmospheric processes and their interactions in the Indian Ocean, and determine how these dynamics affect climate, marine biogeochemical cycles, ecosystems, and fisheries both within the region and globally. This session will provide an update on international research activities that are being undertaken and planned in IIOE-2, and also report on the outcomes of recent efforts to secure support to continue IIOE-2 for an additional 5 years (2020-2025), providing a link to the ‘UN Decade’ program.

In addition, the session will provide information about funding mechanisms and how interested scientists can get involved in IIOE-2.

Co-Sponsor(s):
