Framework for developing best practices for analyzing ocean mixing observations as a community
Framework for developing best practices for analyzing ocean mixing observations as a community
Session ID#: 95731
Session Description:
The ocean mixing community has come together to initiate a best practices working group for analyzing raw turbulence observations, which are used to yield measures of ocean mixing. There currently exists no centralized source of information or standards for analyzing raw turbulence observations, despite the importance of ocean mixing on transporting heat, salt, nutrients and dissipating energy in the ocean.
Instruments and technology have become more readily available, and so has the number of users analyzing these observations. This meeting, open to the community at large, will describe the framework for developing best practices for estimating mixing from shear probes, velocity measurements, and fast-response thermistors.
