Abstract:
A multiscale modeling framework (MMF or superparameterization) has been installed in the Unified equations, horizontal Z-grid, Icosahedral Model (SUZI). The System for Atmospheric Modeling (SAM) has been installed as two-dimensional cloud-resolving model at each SUZI grid cell as a substitute for conventional physical parameterization.

The tropical variability of SUZI is analyzed for both the height and sigma-pressure vertical coordinate versions for an aquaplanet with zonally uniform solstice sea surface temperature, and will be compared to simulations with Superparameterized CAM.
