Abstract:
CTD observations were conducted about 500 casts in the North Pacific Ocean on the R/V HAKUHO-MARU. We calculated the eddy diffusivity from their data using by overturning scale proposed by Thorpe (1977). The eddy diffusivity was large in the perturbed region because of the eddy diffusivity caused by strong shear. High eddy diffusivity area was extended from the upper layer to inertial ocean near fronts of eddies.
