Abstract:
Geophysics is a natural interdisciplinary profession with many successful leaders in the field arriving along a convoluted path through the academic divisions represented here at the 2014 AGU Fall meeting. No matter which educational background you come from, programming is the tool that can set you apart. In this talk I will cover some of the resources available to geophysics students at the beginning levels of programming, including those with zero experience. Since our interests are so widely varied, the focus will be on the tools, workshops, support groups, and online classes that will be of most use to everyone. This will only skim the surface of the vast amount of resources, and please feel free to bring your own ideas to share and we can make this a conversation.
