Abstract:
In the past few years, there have been remarkable advances in the field of amateur astronomical spectroscopy. Today, with just a small 6" telescope, it's possible to capture scientifically significant data of stars, comets, galaxies and even a quasar or two. It's even possible to capture spectra of bright stars with just a DSLR and a standard photographic (non-tracking) tripod.

In this presentation, conducted by a Contributing Editor to Sky & Telescope Magazine, we'll review the briefly a typical equipment needs, with an emphasis on keeping the cost down and on ease of use.

We'll then show some exciting examples of spectra captured by high school students.

And finally, we'll discuss current, on-going pro-am collaboration, including projects on Be stars, cataclysmic variables, and others.
