Abstract:
In this talk, we present results from 2D/3D global hybrid and 2D fully kinetic simulations with an emphasis on the dayside transients. We also show preliminary results from global hybrid simulations with O+. Some of the interesting effects include formation of reconnecting current sheets and magnetic islands in the magnetosheath, formation of jets, large-scale vortices, among others. The size and shape of the ion foreshock in 3D will be illustrated. Relevance of these findings to observations will be discussed.
