Abstract:
Climate models produce a strong negative cloud feedback over the Southern Ocean poleward of about 45S. Equatorward of this latitude the cloud feedback is most often positive. These feedbacks result from increases in cloud optical depth poleward of 45S and decreases in cloud fraction equatorward of 45S. In this talk we will explore the reasons for this dipole in cloud feedback and relate it to changes in the hydrologic cycle that occur during warming.
