A13D:
Quantifying Aviation Impacts on Air Quality and Climate II Posters

Session ID#: 8087

Session Description:
Aircraft emit a variety of gases and particles that contribute to surface-level air pollution and perturb upper-tropospheric chemical composition and cloudiness.    Although past research has laid the groundwork for understanding the mechanisms and magnitude of these effects, significant additional work is needed to reduce uncertainties in assessments and predictions of aviation impacts on air quality and climate.    We thus solicit papers that advance our quantitative understanding of aircraft emissions, contrails, and contrail cloudiness.   Possible topics include improvements and standardization of particle emission measurements; emission sensitivity to varying fuel composition, combustor technology and ambient conditions; development of methods to estimate black-carbon emissions at cruise; and the radiative and microphysical characteristics of contrails and contrail-cirrus.   Presentations of results from recent flight campaigns are particularly welcome.
