SA13A:
Atmospheric Gravity Wave Dynamics and Vertical Coupling from Their Sources to Their Altitudes of Dissipation III Posters

Session ID#: 8369

Session Description:
Gravity waves play central roles in vertical coupling throughout the atmosphere. Their major sources include orography, convection, frontal systems, jet streams, and secondary generation due to momentum transport and instability dynamics. Their transports of energy and momentum to higher altitudes play central roles in the dynamics, structure, and variability from the stratosphere into the mesosphere and thermosphere, but these processes are poorly understood at present.

This session solicits papers focusing on recent measurement programs and modeling studies addressing the full spectrum of gravity wave dynamics from local to global scales. Presentations are encouraged that describe gravity wave source dynamics, propagation in variable environments, instabilities and turbulence, momentum transport and deposition, and multi-scale interactions.
