C11C:
Deep and Dark: Geophysical Exploration of the Cryosphere I Posters

Session ID#: 8973

Session Description:
Geophysical methods play a fundamental role in the exploration of earth’s cryosphere. Satellite, airborne, ground-based, borehole and laboratory data acquisition technologies, processing schemes and interpretative frameworks have been advancing rapidly. Applications are very wide in scope, including for instance (a) contemporary ice masses such as the large Polar ice sheets, smaller ice caps, mountain glaciers, and sea ice; (b) geodynamic and hydrological processes in the underlying crustal and mantle; (c) all geologic materials deposited or altered by contemporary or past glacial processes, ranging from glacial tills produced subglacially to the sands and gravels in glacial outwash plains; and (d) permafrost and seasonally frozen soils, including the sediments whose properties were altered by frost action in the past, and not least (e) seasonal snow. This session welcomes all contributions with a cryosphere geophysical theme to establish the current state of the science and identify future opportunities and challenges.
