ED53C:
Frontiers in Student and Public Engagement in Earth and Space Science using Scientific Practices, Cross-Cutting Concepts, and Multicultural Pedagogical Approaches Posters

Session ID#: 9040

Session Description:
The goal of this session is to share and learn more about successful pedagogy in connecting all people from different racial, ethnic and socio- economic communities to earth and space science. Many earth and space science educators are discovering the positive impacts of facilitating experiences that explicitly include scientific practices, cross-cutting scientific concepts, and relevant cultural views (i.e. worldviews) of life, earth, and sky. Supporting students, educators, and the public in making connections between scientific practices and their cultural values, languages, and practices can mitigate stereotype threats and increase motivation in learning science.

We invite students, scientists, and educators to share their experiences in designing and implementing educational experiences and resources that explicitly acknowledge the multifaceted cultural dimensions that people bring to their learning of earth and space science. We invite examples and research from all grade levels as well as out-of-school programming.
