A41E:
Improving Clouds and Water Vapor Simulations in Climate Models and Observing System Simulation Experiments II Posters

Session ID#: 9069

Session Description:
This session covers two related topics including "Clouds and Water Vapor Simulations in Climate Models" as well as "Observing System Simulation Experiments (OSSEs)".

First, this joint session invites studies focusing on: (1) climate model improvements in simulating clouds and water vapor, including using observations to quantify model biases and guide model improvements; (2) advances in understanding physical and dynamical processes that are helpful for improving model parametrization of clouds and humidity fields.

Second, it also covers all aspects of the applications of OSSEs including, but not limited to: (1) Validation of free-running Earth System Model (ESM) or “Nature run", (2) Simulation of different observations from "Nature run" including discussions around forward models, (3) Assimilating data from future instruments using OSSE experiments, (4) Evaluating different data assimilation technique using OSSEs, (5) Investigating the impact of new data types on data assimilation using OSSEs, (6) Other applications of OSSE such as retrieval of geophysical variables.
