Abstract:
High resolution modeling of the atmosphere is computationally expensive. In order to increase the horizontal resolution, numerical methods must be employed which scale well on modern supercomputers and are computationally efficient. Our group is investigating the impacts of high-order vertical representations of the atmospheric column. Initial results indicate that these representations are capable of producing both greater accuracy and improved model throughput as compared to current operational models.
