Expanding the Geoscience Pipeline: Innovative Strategies to Support K-12 Education Posters

Session Description:
Future success in attracting new generations of geoscientists and Earth Science teachers depends on finding ways now to develop their interest. Implementation of the Next Generation Science Standards will be significant in such efforts if we are able to design and offer effective instruction at the K-5, middle school, and high school levels; pre-service teacher preparation; in-service professional development; and informal science opportunities. Many institutions and organizations have initiated efforts to create programs that address these issues. Interactions with others coming out of conference sessions and other venues, such as the Earth Educator Rendezvous, increase the probability of success. This session will provide opportunities to spotlight current and planned projects. Presentations are welcomed from k-12 classroom educators, college and university geoscience and education faculty and researchers, representatives from informal science institutions and publishers, and advocates for expanding inclusions in the geoscience pipeline to underrepresented groups and people with special needs.
