Creating an Effective REU Structure for Students and Mentors Posters

Session Description:
Research experiences for undergraduates (REUs) are key to engaging students - including underrepresented minorities and early stage students - in science careers, strengthening students’ professional skills and building self-efficacy. However, running an REU is a complex undertaking.  This session explores novel REU structures and strategies for supporting students and mentors. Submissions will focus on single programmatic elements such as: (1) preparing students and mentors, (2) multi-mentor structures, (3) guiding project management (work plans, meetings between student and mentor), (4) career development and graduate school preparation (5) formative assessments, and (6) recruitment and retention of students from underrepresented groups. A goal is that outcomes of this session will be written into journal articles for a special publication.
