Climate Literacy: Delivering Climate Change Science Content, Process, and Context to K12 Educators, Students, Parents, and the Larger Community II Posters

Session Description:
Next Generation Science Standards and many emerging state standards mandate that US students learn about climate change. Although a recent survey indicates that a majority of US secondary science teachers teach at least one hour on climate change annually, most teachers have limited climate science training, and may face resistance from families on this highly politicized issue. This session requests abstracts presenting research and models of approaches, interventions, or professional development that: 1. increase inservice teachers’ knowledge of climate change and improve access to research-based information; or 2. educate inservice teachers in accessing and using appropriate climate data; or 3. incorporate climate change into education programs for preservice teachers, or 4. describe strategies for engaging families and communities in climate change education, or 5. offer a conceptual framework for scaffolding formal and informal inquiry-based instruction and guide the design and implementation of age-appropriate learning materials.
