The Future of Ice in the Polar World: Using Past and Present Data to Prepare for Rapid Change Posters

Session Description:
The physical structure of the polar world is changing with enormous consequences to the polar and subpolar biological communities. Climatic and physical changes are co-occurring with shifting geopolitical seascapes, emergent marine mammal conservation and fisheries needs, and humanitarian crises for Arctic communities. Emergent toolkits are needed to confront the scale of change to which polar environments are committed. This session welcomes physical science contributions, including modern in situ and remote sensing observations, climate models, or paleoclimate and paleoceanographic archives, all of which reveal insights into the scale, rapidity, geographic extent, and novelty of on-the-ground polar change. We welcome contributions on emergent data gaps and logistical barriers to implementing scientific monitoring programs in the polar world. This session will uniquely focus on using polar datasets to address the future of environmental decision-making in sensitive regions and will bring together a physical science community that can concretely contribute to this global crisis.
