Observation and Model Simulation Studies of Cloud Properties and Processes (OMS2CP2)

Session Description:
Clouds play significant roles in Earth’s hydrological cycle and radiation budget. Representation of clouds in climate models remains as one of the largest uncertainties in predictions of future climate. Both observational and model studies about the cloud properties and processes are highly demanded for improving climate model performances.

Cloud properties can be obtained and examined using space, ground-based remote sensors or directly from in situ aircraft probes. Studies have also shown large differences of cloud properties among various methods. It is crucial to understand and quantify the uncertainties associated with measurements and retrievals. With high-quality cloud observations, studies can advance our understanding of clouds and their processes, which can be further applied to model simulation and evaluation studies of cloud processes.

This session invites papers on 1) cloud observations and their uncertainty quantification, 2) better understanding of cloud processes, and 3) model simulation and evaluation studies of cloud properties.
