Science and Applications of Atmospheric River Research

Session Description:
The intense horizontal transports of water vapor by Atmospheric Rivers are fundamental to the global cycles of energy and water, and also determine regional patterns of weather, water and climate variability and extremes.  Research into atmospheric rivers now includes field experiments, model simulations and forecasts, diagnostic analyses, and climate-change projections.  Moreover, the science of atmospheric river benefits and impacts has begun to engender new applications, operations and decision support considerations (e.g. flooding/hazard/resources planning and responses).  This session encourages contributions from all facets of science and applications research on atmospheric rivers.
