T33C:
Linking Crustal Deformation at Multiple Temporal and Spatial Scales in the Himalayan-Tibetan Collisional Orogen Posters

Submit an Abstract to this Session

Session ID#: 23308

Session Description:
The Himalayan-Tibetan orogen is perhaps the best studied continent-collision zone on Earth, fueling decades of research in tectonics and surface processes to better understand its kinematics, mechanics, and dynamic evolution. Recent multidisciplinary geological-field studies, along with refined geochronologic tools, provide new constraints on the geodynamics of the orogen. In this session, we are interested in examining the distribution of deformation over a variety of spatial and temporal scales. Specifically, how is deformation focused or distributed from short/intermediate-timescales on individual faults, observed from slip/loading rates, earthquake record, and landscape evolution, to long-term deformation across entire thrust belts, which affects crustal thickening and rheology, exhumation, erosion, deformation kinematics, and plateau evolution? We seek multidisciplinary geomorphological, structural, geophysical, geochemical/geochronological, and numerical/analogue modeling investigations over these variable scales, from individual faults to regional studies across the Himalaya and Tibet, including the Pamirs, Karakoram, Tian Shan, Longmen Shan, Qimen Tagh, Qilian Shan, and Indo-China block.
