Session Description:
Integrated water-ecosystem-economy studies across multiple temporal and spatial scales have been conducted in many river basins around the world. These studies integrate observation, computer-based modeling, and decision support for sustainable river basin development. These studies also provide predictive understanding of large-scale hydrological cycle and interactions between hydrologic systems and ecological, biophysical, biochemical and socioeconomic systems. Historical changes in land and water use, climate and basin management institution and uncertainties and risks in the future development have been addressed. The aim of this session is to discuss the challenges, progresses, and future directions of integrated model and observatories for river basin research. We solicit contributions related but not limited to the following topics: (1) Integrated observatories and data service; (2) integrated water-ecosystem-economy models; (3) integrated accounting of the impact on economic development and ecosystem services; (4) decision support system based on integrated models and observatories to analyse sustainable river basin development.
