Water and Society: Achieving Water Security Under Climate Change, from Cloud Computing and Extreme Event Modeling to Decision Support and Policy II Posters

Session Description:
Extreme hydrological events such as droughts and floods are intimately linked to feedbacks between regional climate, policy, and economics. Improved water security requires the development of science-based hydrological tools for decision support. These tools can: a) access observed and remotely sensed data for calibration; b) simulate the coupled dynamics of climate, human decisions, and environmental impacts; and c) produce results that are relevant at appropriate spatial scales to be interpreted and used by stakeholders and policymakers. This session spans regional and global-scale studies that advance the theory and practice of water management, in particular: cloud-based tools for data acquisition and processing; improved methodology for climate adaptation, including both water supply and quality considerations; advances in decision support in data-scarce contexts, including statistical and machine learning techniques; uncertainty and sensitivity analysis for models of coupled systems; and impacts of nonstationary extreme events on energy, agricultural, and ecological systems.
