Gas Hydrates: A Major Unconventional Energy Resource—When Will They Be Produced? Posters

Session Description:
Gas hydrates have attracted the scientific community due to their abundant occurrences in shallow sediments in permafrost regions and outer continental margins; their role in climate change; their effect on seafloor stability; and their huge energy potential. The methane within gas-hydrates is so huge that even 15% production can meet global energy requirement for about two centuries at the current rate of consumption. The success in production tests from gas hydrates reservoirs in onshore McKenzie delta of Canada, Alaska of USA, Nankai Trough off Japan and South China Sea have spread tremendous interests in national programs of many countries, and provide great hopes to meet the energy security for the next generation. Thus, the session invites papers on geo-scientific investigation of gas hydrates; feasible production technologies and flow assurance; and possible impact on environment.
