The Madden-Julian Oscillation and Its Global Impacts: Observations, Modeling, and Prediction II Posters

Session Description:
Despite the critical role of the Madden-Julian Oscillation (MJO) in Earth’s water cycle, our state-of-the-art climate models still struggle to accurately simulate and predict the MJO and its remote influences, which greatly limits our capability at subseasonal-to-seasonal (S2S) prediction. In this session, we invite presentations that highlight recent advances in observational, theoretical, and modeling studies on the MJO and its associated multi-scale interactions and global impacts, including but not limited to:

1) New observations of the multi-scale structure and key physical processes associated with the MJO;

2) Seasonal, interannual, decadal, and future changes in MJO characteristics;

3) MJO influences on global weather and climate events;

4) Process-oriented diagnostics and theoretical understanding of essential MJO physics;

5) Modeling efforts towards improved simulations of the MJO and its global impacts;

6) S2S prediction of the MJO and its associated global extreme phenomena.
