Evapotranspiration: Advances in Remote Sensing–Based Estimation, Mapping, and Evaluation Posters

Session Description:
Evapotranspiration (ET) is a key landscape response variable that links the soil-vegetation system with the atmosphere through bio-physical processes for mass and energy exchange. The estimation of ET is prone to large uncertainties. This session will focus on satellite-based estimation, mapping and evaluation of landscape ET. Accuracy of satellite-based ET suffers from bias and uncertainty whose importance seem to vary by hydro-climatic region, spatiotemporal scale, and modeling approach. While field-based methods such as lysimeters and eddy covariance techniques are important for understanding ET processes and for the evaluation of estimated ET, the mapping and analysis of satellite-based ET for regional and continental scale applications will be highlighted. The scope of the session will include: (1) advances in ET estimation by remote sensing using optical and thermal bands, (2) applications for a range of spatiotemporal scales, (3) accuracy evaluation for decision making.
