Temporal Variability in Oceanic Mesoscale Activity, from Seasonal to Multidecadal Records Posters

Session Description:
Mesoscale oceanic variability (~10-200 km) is known to play a major role in the transport of heat, salt, and nutrients in the global ocean, affecting not only ocean physics but also marine ecosystems.  More than two decades of remote-sensing observations, networks of in-situ data such as the Argo program, and the development of high-resolution ocean general circulation models enable studies of such variability in space and time.

This session welcomes presentations that use these state-of-the-art analysis tools to enhance our understanding of temporal variability at the oceanic mesoscale.  Analyses that focus on seasonal, interannual/decadal, and long-term changes in mesoscale activity are invited, as are efforts that assess our capability to accurately quantify mesoscale activity and its variability.  Studies that consider the implications for tracer transports, climate variability, and ecosystem behavior are particularly encouraged to submit.
