Session Description:
Recent years have seen a surge in extreme weather activity. The coastal and oceanographic community has made considerable progress in understanding the physics governing the hydrodynamics and morphological changes in the littoral and nearshore regions. Model predictions of storm surge, inundation and changes in morphology have also improved tremendously in recent years but many uncertainties regarding processes and interactions remain. Better understanding of the coastal response to extreme events require improved model predictions of the atmosphere (intensity, size, and track of storm), the ocean (waves, water levels and currents), the subaqueous and subarieal (beaches, barrier islands) and coupled predictions of the response. This session invites presentations focusing on the hydrodynamics and/or morphodynamic evolution during and after extreme events.
