OS53C:
Surface Water and Ocean Topography (SWOT) Mission: Oceanography, Hydrology, and Their Interaction at the Estuaries Posters
Submit an Abstract to this Session
Session ID#: 45033
Session Description:
SWOT is a satellite mission under development by NASA, CNES (France), the CSA (Canada), and the UKSA (UK) that will use radar interferometry to measure water elevation over both the ocean and inland waters with coverage between the 77.6 degree latitudes every 21 days. The sea surface height measurement will have resolution ~20 km, depending on the season and location, allowing the study of the two-dimensional structure of small-scale ocean circulation. Over land, SWOT will detect lakes exceeding 250 m2 and rivers wider than 100 m, with 10 cm height accuracy averaged over 1 km2, allowing the study of water storage variations and discharge. The data over land and near-shore coastal oceans will have resolution ~ 100 m, allowing the study of the dynamics of the interaction of rivers with coastal ocean processes with wide-ranging societal applications. Papers addressing all the aspects of anticipated mission science and applications are welcomed.
