Forest CO2, CH4, and N2O Emissions: Magnitudes, Patterns, and Pathways Posters

Session Description:
Forests play a crucial role in the global budgets of the greenhouse gases (GHG) CO2, CH4, N2O, and soils have been the primary focus of GHG studies in terrestrial ecosystems. However, recent studies indicate that coarse woody debris, tree stems, leaves and other forest components also play an important role in the GHG dynamics in forested ecosystems ranging from wetlands to upland (freely drained) forests, and boreal to tropical. There is emerging research on spatial and temporal variability and drivers of GHG fluxes, especially CH4 and N2O, from these components. This new information has improved upscaling of the emissions from ecosystem- to landscape-level, quantification of net ecosystem GHGs balance, and process understanding of GHG dynamics under changing climate conditions. This session invites contributions addressing temporal and spatial variability of GHGs fluxes from various forest components, and modeling efforts to include this emerging information to better quantify ecosystem-to-landscape scale GHG balance.
