Session Description:
Sensitivity of hydrological systems to climate fluctuations is constrained by physical properties of catchments, themselves stressed by human activities. Such physical characteristics control watershed responses, which can be non-stationary owing to the complexity and superposition of the processes involved (spatial heterogeneity, surface-subsurface interactions, land use...). Links between climate and hydrological variability may differ according to events magnitude (e.g. extremes vs. neutral conditions), to the characteristic frequency of oscillation of the hydroclimate processes (meteorological events or low-frequency climate oscillations) or to the spatial extent of hydrosystems. Disentangling the role of catchments physical properties in the filtering of multi-scale climate fluctuations is then crucial to understand hydrological variations under climate variability and change and refine hydrological projections.
This session encourages contributions that explore links between hydrological variability and short- to long-term climate fluctuations and provide insights in assessing how catchments physical properties modulate climate signals over multiple spatial and temporal scales.
