EP21B:
Drainage Network Reorganization from Source to Sink Posters
Submit an Abstract to this Session
Session ID#: 46129
Session Description:
Changes in the topology of drainage networks through progressive drainage divide motion and/or discrete river capture events can have profound influences on both the geomorphology of source regions and the composition and volumes of the sedimentary fill of sink basins. We invite contributions from the surface processes and sedimentary geology communities focused on the mechanisms and/or implications of drainage network reorganization for both the upstream source regions and downstream depositional systems using either field or model-based approaches. Key questions to explore include 1) how are past changes in drainage networks recorded in the landscape, depositional record, or other means, 2) what conditions favor drainage network reorganizations, and 3) how prevalent, frequent, or important are large-scale drainage network reorganization events? We especially encourage studies reconciling data between source regions and lower reaches of a given drainage system. New methods for characterizing drainage divide migration or capture are also welcome.
