Forest Response to Extreme Events Using Remote Sensing II Posters

Session Description:
Extreme events such as drought, flooding, hurricanes, and fires have profound impacts on forest ecosystems and will likely become even more influential under ongoing climate change. Short-term responses of forests to extreme events may include changes in carbon, water, and energy fluxes; medium- to long-term responses may include mortality, regeneration, and forest structure and composition changes. Extreme events often affect large areas, however the impacts of such events on ecosystems show large spatial variability that cannot be captured by in situ studies alone. Remote sensing provides an efficient way of assessing and monitoring the heterogeneous response of forest ecosystems to extreme events. This session welcomes studies investigating extreme forest disturbances at a variety of spatial scales using remote sensing, especially but not limited to lidar, radar, hyperspectral and satellite multispectral. This session accepts studies from all forest biomes, and studies that integrate remote sensing with field measurements and models.
