Biogeochemical Cycling Across Redox Regimes in Arctic and Subarctic Ecosystems Posters

Session Description:
Arctic and subarctic ecosystems are experiencing pronounced warming that is altering landscape structure, hydrology, and biogeochemical cycles. In particular, many permafrost-affected systems are experiencing changes in soil saturation due to both changing water balances and extensive permafrost thaw. Hydrologic changes will drive redox shifts that have cascading effects on biogeochemical cycles of carbon, nutrients (nitrogen, phosphorus), and metals (iron, manganese, etc.). Although substantial research has been geared towards understanding how the organic matter stored in high-latitude soils will decompose under warming climate, fewer studies have examined how redox regulates biogeochemical processes in these systems, particularly with respect to nutrients and metals. This session invites presentations that monitor redox conditions and/or explore how biogeochemical processes vary across redox regimes within arctic and subarctic ecosystems.
