Combining Monitoring Data with Models to Investigate Volcanic Unrest Posters

Session Description:
Assessing volcanic unrest to mitigate hazards and identify eruption precursors requires a multidisciplinary approach that combines disparate monitoring data with modeling. Volcano monitoring datasets are increasingly complex, encompassing toolsets from geodesy and geophysics to geochemistry and petrology, thereby spanning geological and modern timescales. Similarly, modeling approaches are diverse, from simple analytical models to more sophisticated numerical modeling efforts including dynamic, time-dependent physical processes, providing new avenues for investigating both the short and long term evolution of volcanic systems. Model-data fusion techniques are critical for linking observations with models to provide estimates of a volcano’s evolution and its potential hazards. This session will focus on approaches for combining monitoring datasets with modeling on a variety of spatial and temporal scales. Submissions are encouraged from both geophysical and geochemical-petrological perspectives investigating volcanic unrest at active magmatic systems as well as historical and long-term volcanic unrest from the geological record.
