Nutrient–Carbon Cycle Interactions in Terrestrial Ecosystems Posters

Session Description:
Ecosystem carbon cycling is largely dependent on coupled carbon-nutrient biogeochemical processes. Evidence is mounting that changes in nutrient availability due to nitrogen deposition, weathering, downstream effects of rising atmospheric CO2 concentrations and warming may trigger plant and soil microbial community responses, challenging our ability to accurately predict ecosystem global change impacts over the coming century. Inclusion of nutrient constraints to carbon cycling can greatly improve our understanding of ecosystem processes and global climate-carbon cycle feedbacks. This session invites presentations on how plant, soil and ecosystem carbon cycling interact with nutrient cycles. We welcome observational, experimental and modeling approaches that contribute to an increased understanding of the coupling or decoupling of nutrient and carbon cycles, particularly as they influence ecosystem responses to increasing environmental pressures from rising atmospheric CO2 levels, increasing temperatures, climate extremes, land use changes and their downstream effects.
