Session Description:
Coastal ocean science plays a pivotal role in the way society interacts with and benefits from the coastal environment.  Research and monitoring of the coastal zone inform and support preparedness for and resilience to hazards; preservation, restoration and stewardship of coastal ecosystems; and safe and efficient maritime transportation and commerce.  The utility of coastal ocean research and its value to society is illustrated by recent advancements in coastal ocean observations; data collection, syntheses and forecasts; and the development and operationalization of products and tools.  In this session we invite submissions on recent advancements in coastal ocean observations and research with direct application to societal needs and benefits. Submission of interdisciplinary topics and those with connections to social science, education and/or economics are especially encouraged.
